Sarawak : Day 1

It has been a while since I was idle. Actually I have been busy updating and arranging my new platform for writing. I used Wordpress before this but I found it was complicated. Then I decided to change to Blogger. I am so excited to have a new fresh appearance for my blog and it is something I have been looking for. Ok, let's put that aside first and let the story of limelights begin.

I want to tell you guys about my trip to Sarawak Bumi Kenyalang (Land of the Hornbills) last 2 weeks. Sarawak is a part of East Malaysia located on island of Borneo bordering with Sabah, Labuan and also Indonesia.
I went to Kuching which is the capital city and the most popular state in Sarawak. The journey took about 1 hour and half from Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) to Kuching Airport. Even the journey was not too long, it was quite frightening as every time the plane was in turbulence condition, I felt like I was riding roller coaster at that time. It occurred several times and I have never experienced that before.

Alhamdulillah. We arrived at Kuching safely and 'unharmed'. I and my other 10 'crazy' friends were so excited to explore Kuching. It was supposed to be 12 members but unfortunately one of the members got sick and he had to cancel the trip which we had been waiting for 1 year to be gathered with. Well, it was inevitable and we were mourning about you all the way. There will be always next time. OK, Hafiz Hafizol ? :)

We took packages from Alami Travel Agency for 4 days 3 nights. The packages included with hotel, driver and van. It costed about RM2300 for 12 person. We stayed at Abell Residence Hotel which quite comfortable but the water heater was a let down since it's not functioning. It's ok, then. The water was not really cold like I used to have in Japan.
For places we want to visit, we just had to ask the driver and he willingly gave us a ride to the places. The driver was so nice and easy going. He picked us up at the airport and brought us to the first place - Zaharah Kek Lapis.
Sarawak is famously known for its mouth-watering, delicious and colorful layered cakes. It is called Kek Lapis Sarawak (Sarawak Cake). These cakes have a abundant variety of flavors and colors. It is something you won't miss about while you were here. You could try it first before placing orders.
We ordered the cakes first as we didn't want ready-stock items and they tasted so much better when they're fresh from oven. The price range comes from RM10.

Next, we went to Kuching Waterfront which located near to Sungai Sarawak (Sarawak River) and it was also one of the venerated places that you should visit. Nearby the waterfront we also could see Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) Tower across the river and the bizarre architectural look really caught my eyes. Besides, you also can take the small boat to explore the other side of river. It costed 50 cents in daytime and RM1.00 at night. It's so cheap, right? Haha. It's because the 'journey' only took less than 5 minutes. It's just across the river. There was Medan Selera (Food Arena) which a lot of Sarawak specialty foods could be found. As a must try dish you should try Laksa Sawarak and Mee Kolok.

We also went to Main Bazaar Kuching to buy some souvenirs. There were really a lot of shops and you will be blinded from its various type of souvenirs. After that, we went to Kuching Landmark where there were big cat statues at the center of the road. Kuching means 'Cat' in Malay language. It's located about 10 minutes from the waterfront by walking.

That's a wrap up for Day 1 in Sarawak.

Stay tuned and keep surprising!
